Obituary of Willie Owen Murphy

Willie Owen Murphy, 73 of  Bedford, passed away Friday, October 6, 2017 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.  He was born on Thursday, June 15, 1944 in Bedford County, a son of the late Joseph Murphy and Claudia Murphy Murphy.  

He was retired from Wheelabrator Abrasives. 

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ann Davis-Murphy; his daughters, Denise Murphy of Roanoke, Yolanda Murphy, Myra Davis, Tyra Davis all of Bedford; his son, Joseph Shane Murphy of Bedford; his sisters, Mable Barber of Lynchburg, Bertha  Parker (Charles) of Bedford; his brother-in-law, Jerome Staples of Bedford as well as four grandchildren & numerous nieces & nephews.  

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Otterville Baptist Church with Rev. M. D. Mays officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 7 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
