Charles Harrison Blankenship, 89 of Moneta, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on Friday, September 9, 1921 in Brenton, WV, a son of the late James Harrison Blankenship and Tennessee Cole Blankenship. He was also preceded in death by eight brothers & sisters. He was a retired coal miner with Consol Energy and was a member of Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy. He was also a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in World War II. Surviving is his wife, Penny C. Blankenship; two sons, Charles H. Blankenship, Jr. & wife, Dana of Shady Spring, WV, W. Craig Blankenship & wife, Donna of Vinton; two daughters, Patty B. Hamilton of Gaithersburg, MD, Betti Jeffery of Moneta; nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 6, 2011 at 2 PM at Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy with Rev. Wayne Murphy and Rev. Ken Lester officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
