Obituary of Margaret Johnson Coffey Wecht

Margaret Beulah Johnson Coffey Wecht, 96, of Bedford, passed away October 2, 2014 in Oakwood Manor. She was born January 7, 1918 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Robert Lee Johnson and Beulah Carter Johnson. She was a lifetime member of Bedford Baptist Church. Margaret was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by eighteen brothers and sisters, Irene Johnson, Freddie Farley, Katie Davis, Emily Virginia Johnson, Pauline Jennings, Bettye Jane Johnson, Elmer Johnson, Hanford Johnson, Griffin Johnson, Dewey Johnson, Robert Johnson, Garland Johnson, Emily Lee Chappelle, Jason Johnson, Nelson Johnson, Morris Johnson, Jack Bennett Johnson and Kenneth Johnson. She was also preceded in death by husbands, Arnold L. Coffey and Wilbur (Bill) Wecht. She is survived by two children; Arnold L. Coffey Jr. and wife Beth of Houston, Texas and Pamela C. Turpin of Bedford; three grandsons Robert Dale Coffey and wife, Jeannean of Houston; David Turpin of Bedford; Mark Turpin and wife, Laura of St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin; two great-granddaughters Hannah Coffey of Houston and Sarah Turpin of St. Croix Falls. She is also survived by two sister-in-laws, Jean Johnson (Jack) and Lorene Johnson (Nelson) of Bedford; and numerous nieces and nephews on both the Johnson and Coffey side of the family. Margaret lived a full life first of all being a wife and mother to her children. She led Girl Scout Troop #9, which was sponsored by Bedford Baptist, for several years. She served in various capacities in the church as well. After her children were grown she began working at the Camp Store at the Peaks of Otter. This was a job she thoroughly enjoyed and was able to buy her "little red car" she loved so well. With her death ends an era in the Johnson family tree. She will be missed by all. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 6, 2014 at 11 AM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford, with Dr. David Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday beginning at 10 AM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
