Obituary of Macie Mings Smith

Please share a memory of Macie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Wednesday, December 3, 2014 our mom, grandma and great grandma, Macie M. Smith, age 76 passed from the arms and hugs of her family into the arms of God. She was born Sunday, May 8, 1938 in a log cabin located in Lynchburg, Missouri, a daughter of the late Robert McKinley Mings and Macie Bell Stilley Mings. She graduated from Plato High School. During a revival, one of her sisters introduced her to a traveling evangelist, who later became her life-long valentine, Rev. Walter L. Smith. He preceded her in death. They continued in ministry together. She was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother and woman of God. She truly embodied the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31:10-31. She was a fierce protector of her family, a highly skilled cook who loved canning her legendary spaghetti sauce, which was a family favorite. She also enjoyed caring for her flowers, garden and vegetables every year. One could always find her listening to and singing along with hymns and southern gospel favorites. Surviving are her sons, Walter L. Smith & wife, Valerie of Liberty, KS, Timothy L. Smith & wife, Kathern of Austinville; daughters, Macie S. Watson & husband, David of Taylors, SC, Esther C. Phillips & husband, Nathan of Indian Valley, Karen S. Dooley & husband, Rucker of Thaxton, fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren as well as her sisters, Alice Swetnam & Beulah Coble both of Missouri. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 11:00 am at Cool Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Nathan Phillips & Rev. Larry Myers officiating. A graveside service will follow in Appalachian Conference Cemetery in Dublin at 2 PM. The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:00 am until the time of the service at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
