Obituary of Bertie Mae Padgett

Bertie Jenkins Padgett, 90 of Vinton, and formerly of Moneta passed away Thursday, July 25, 2015 at Berkshire Nursing Home. She was born on Monday, January 26, 1925 in Gloucester Co., VA, a daughter of the late Junius McFadden Jenkins and Berttie Belvin Jenkins. She was also preceded in death by her foster parents, Arnie & Eula Jones as well as her husband, Basil Andrew Padgett. Bertie was a retired nurse, having graduated from the Orange County Vocational School of Nursing and later received her EMT Cardiac certification from the Virginia Emergency Medical Services. She was a life member of the Moneta Rescue Squad and the Women of the Moose. She is survived by her daughter, Alice Padgett of Vinton; two granddaughters, Jodi Lynn Judge of Vinton & Katie Michelle Dooley of Springfield, MO; her great grandchildren, Samuel Grey Judge, Emma Grace Dooley both of Vinton, Savannah Radosevich of Springfield, MO as well as her foster brother, Rickie L. Jones & wife, Patricia and her foster sister, Joyceann Kanode, all of Bedford and her dear lifelong friend, Mary Lou Efford of Baltimore, MD. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Moneta Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 497, Moneta, VA 24121. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at 11:00 am at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Pastor Glenn Giles officiating. Friends may call Tuesday after 9 AM and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
