God called Myrtle Frances Brown Saunders, 93 of Thaxton, currently residing at Our Lady of the Valley home on Thursday, July 31, 2015. She was born on October 31, 1921 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Drewry Brown and Kate St. Clair Brown. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Edgar “Jack” Saunders and her son, Jimmy Lee Saunders. She was a resident of Our Lady of the Valley for the last fourteen years, where she had many friends. She loved to play bingo, dominoes & working word search puzzles. She was also a member of Union United Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Nadine Harris & husband, Bill; granddaughters, Ginger Anderson & Chris Curd; Cherie Sartori & husband, Larry; great grandsons, Cody Johnson, Austin Curd, Andrew “A. J.” Sartori; a great granddaughter, Alexandra “Lexi” Sartori; daughter-in-law, Debbie Saunders; brother, James E. “Buck” Brown. The family would like to say a “big thank you” to all of the staff at Our Lady of the Valley. Myrtle was a very special to both the residents and staff. A funeral Service will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at 4 PM at the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Pastor Dan Freeland officiating. Interment will follow in the Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 PM until the time of the service at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
