Obituary of Jimmy Lee Meador

Jimmy Lee Meador, 77 of Moneta, passed away Friday, August 21, 2015. He was born on February 21, 1938, a son of the late Steven Grady Meador and Zola Hurt Meador. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Rucker, Gilbert & Beverly Meador and his sisters, Ruby Hunter & Edna Southall. Jimmy was a skilled cabinet maker and President of Meador Cabinet, Inc. He had a bluegrass band that was popular in the 50's and 60's called The Little Hillbillies with lifelong friends, Eddie Johnson, Bobby Wheeler, his niece, Shirley Hunter Sweet (deceased) and Johnny Haskins (deceased). In the early 70's and 80's, The Jimmy Meador Family traveled and sang southern gospel music. He is survived by his former wife and lifelong "Sweetie", Alice Mayhew Meador; daughters, Denise Robertson & husband, Matt, Sherry Richards & husband, Eddie, Valerie Meador; four grandchildren, Christopher Lee Richards, Dustin Dale Reynolds, Joshua Lee Richards, Olivia Grace Robertson; three great grandchildren; his sister, Peggy Hensley & husband, David as well as several nieces and nephews. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Agape Center, P. O. Box 573, Moneta, VA 24121. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 24, 2015 at 11:00 am at Diamond Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Melvin Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Diamond Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 23, 2015, from 3 until 5 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
