Obituary of Josephine Mayhew Jacobs Mason

Josephine Mayhew Jacobs Mason, 92 of Moneta, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Oakwood Health & Rehab. Center. She was born on Saturday, April 28, 1923 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Eugene Mayhew and Elvira Hudson Mayhew. She was also preceded in death by first husband, MacTaw Jacobs, a daughter, Judith Jacobs Overstreet Shields, two grandsons, J. D. Overstreet & Michael Burley, two granddaughters, Tonya Bailen, Jody Lasecki, five brothers, Frank, Jesse, Thomas, Ford & Russell Mayhew & three sisters, Gladys McLain, Quinnie Gordon, Inez Jordan. She retired from Rubatex Corporation with thirty-three years service. She is survived by her loving & devoted husband, Ray Guilford Mason; three daughters, Hilda Jacobs Craft & husband, Jim, Peggy Jacobs McCauley & husband, Jim, Vickie Jacobs Burley & husband, Marshall; two sons, Douglas Jacobs, Lendale Mason & wife, Marcia; two grandsons whom she raised as her own, Gregory Mason & wife, Phyllis, Timothy Mason & wife, Penny, six additional grandchildren, Tina Brumfield, Sharon Dalton, Kathy Downs, Christopher Burley, Jessica Mason, Andrea Mason, as well as fifteen great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Oakwood Manor for the care that she received while she was a resident. Funeral services will be held at the graveside on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at 11:00 am at Virginia Memorial Park with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
