Wayne Allen Porterfield, Sr., 76 of Montvale, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Bedford County Nursing Home. He was born on Thursday, April 13, 1939 in Giles County, VA, a son of the late Alma Christine Porterfield. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Sue Porterfield. He was a retired contractor and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by his son, Allen Porterfield & wife, Rebecca of Thaxton; daughters, Nancy McClure of Madison, IN, Lisa Houze & husband, Rob of Hanover, IN. He was known by "Gramps" and loved by his grandchildren, Nathan, Taylor, Josh, Travis & Jeremy and a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn. He had a special love for the game of baseball. The family would like to thank the Bedford County Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 7:00 pm at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Gary Arrington officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 5 PM until the time of the service at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
