Helen Lewis Zimmerman Martin, 91, of Moneta, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and went to be with the Lord on May 27, 2016. She was a loving wife, grandmother and great grandmother. She had a love of flowers, her family, church, God and Elvis. She was born on January 7, 1925 in Bedford, a daughter of the late Elizabeth Wheeler and Cabell Zimmerman.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, George "Shorty" Martin. She had four cherished children, Darrell Ray Martin, George (G.C) Martin (Connie), Delores Wheeler (Jerry), Donna Kay Martin. She carried in her heart eight grandchildren and she loved her seven most treasured great grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters and one brother.
Special thanks to Centra Hospice Care of Bedford for the love and care during her most difficult time. Also a special thank you to Stella Porter for caring for our precious Helen.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford. The family will receive friends Monday from 4 until 6 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
