Obituary of Glen Warren Hicks

Glen Warren Hicks, 91 of Moneta, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Campbell Rest Home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Nichols Hicks; his parents, Warren & Ethel Johnston Hicks; his brothers, Horace J. Hicks and William (Bill) Hicks and his sisters, Edith Krokowski, Helen Johnson & Marie Allen. Mr. Hicks attended Moneta High School and served in the United States Army from July 1, 1943 until February 6, 1946. He attended agriculture school after military service and was employed by N & W Railroad for thirty-six years. After retiring, he returned to live and work his father's farm in Moneta where he was born and raised. His days were spent tending cows and fields on the farm he loved. He was a former member of Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church in Vinton and a present member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Moneta. Survivors include daughters & sons-in-law, Joan & Kevin McGowan of Chesterfield, Patricia & Benson Howard of Moseley; son & daughter-in-law, Joe & Melissa Hicks of Moneta; grandchildren, Andrew (Leah) McGowan, Kate McGowan, Joshua, Kyle & Chad Hicks and Lauren & Mason Howard; great grandchildren, Harrison & Emily McGowan; his sisters, Laura Morgan of Moneta, Virginia Moul of Northern Virginia, Dorothy Palmer of Vinton. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 458, Moneta, VA 24121 A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with Rev. David Lord officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
