William Franklin Carson, Sr. died on August 25, 2016. He was born on July 25, 1926 in Kannapolis, North Carolina, a son of the late William McKinley Carson and Rhoda Walter Carson. He was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Fariss Carson and his children, Vickie Carson Overstreet and husband, Johnny, Linda Carson Combs and husband, Randy, and William F. Carson Jr. and wife, Suzanne. He leaves behind his grandchildren: Emily C. Ryan and husband, Thomas, Carson O. Price and husband, Ashby, Hunter T.L. Overstreet and wife, Jennifer, Nicklaus R. Combs and fiancé, Hannah, Adrian P. Carson and MacKenzie M. Carson as well as two great grandchildren, Ashby Wilkinson Price and Garland Fariss Price. He attended The Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from Piedmont Label Company after 43 years as Vice President. After leaving Bedford he resided at Friendship Manor in Roanoke and then Sunnyside Presbyterian Community in Harrisonburg, Virginia for the past six years. He was a member of three churches over the years, Pecks Baptist and Bedford Baptist in Bedford and Virginia Heights Baptist Church in Roanoke. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Sunnyside Presbyterian Community in Harrisonburg, VA in the Meredith Chapel. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
