James Revere Bowyer, Sr., 85 of Bedford passed away Monday, November 18, 2024 in Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born June 3, 1939 in Bedford County, a son of the late Hilary Marsh Bowyer and Earle Davenport Bowyer. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Bowyer & Esther Ashley & a brother, Robert W. Bowyer.

James was retired from BWXT and was a lifelong member of Nicopolis Community Church and a member of Liberty Masonic Lodge #95, Mentow Lodge #180, Lynchburg Valley Scottish Rites and Liberty Chapter #109 OES.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Carleen Hanel Bowyer; his daughters, Wanda Mayhew (Patrick), Darlene Bowyer, Cynthia McClellan (David); his son, James R. Bowyer, Jr. (Tina); his sisters, Margaret Whorley, Elsie Laverne Mitchell (Marshall); brother-in-law, Robert Lee Ashley; sister-in-law, Delores Bowyer as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Friday evening, November 22, 2024 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Pastor Kevin Hanel and Pastor Steve Kidd officiating. Interment will follow in the Nicopolis Community Church Cemetery with graveside Masonic Rites.
