







Obituary of Teddie Ray Smith, Sr.
Teddie Ray Smith, Sr., age 90, of Coeburn & formerly of Moneta, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, with his wife, Marie, by his side.
Tedd was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Opal Smith of Tom’s Creek, VA; a sister, Anita Love, wife, Melba J. Smith; grandson, Joshua P. Smith; stepdaughter, Kami R. Morgan; step-granddaughters, Brooke J. Morgan and Jessica Huff Hollyfield.
Tedd is survived by his wife, Marie Morgan Smith, children, Rev. Ted R. Smith, Jr. (Sylvia), Cheryl Clifton (Don), Steve Smith (Jaci); grandchildren, Ben, Michelle (Matt), Erin, Chris (Hannah), Tara (Jason), Allen, Lauren (Raheem), Sam, Chris, and Alexis; great-grandchildren, Liam, Lacey, Jackson, Carter, Nathaniel, Zachery, Sophia, Oriana, Rhea, and Colter; step children, Angie Legg (Shane), April Huff (Teddy), Frankie Morgan (Aimee); step grandchildren. Christian, Morgan, Jeremy (Shaylynn), Noah (Amber), Daniel (Emily); step great-grandson, Ezra; sister, Kathy Hubbard.
Born November 14, 1934, in Tom’s Creek, VA, Tedd graduated from Coeburn High School where he played football and baseball. At the close of the Korean War, Tedd joined the United States Air Force, married his high school sweetheart, Melba Jean Craig, and was stationed across the United States at various Air Force bases. Tedd and Melba were married over 57 years and raised three children. Following a long military career, Tedd retired as Senior Master Sargent and settled in Moneta VA near Smith Mountain Lake. He became a Master Electrician upon graduating from VA Western Community College, Roanoke. Tedd enjoyed baseball, football, fishing, mechanics, carpentry, woodworking, gardening, and fixing things. Later in life Tedd returned to Coeburn after marrying Marie Morgan where he resided happily until his death.
Tedd will be remembered for his love of family, a strong work ethic, his honesty, his diagnostic and mechanical abilities, a deep devotion to Jesus Christ, and his love of neighbor. Tedd will also be loved for his devotion to both of the families he was blessed to be a part of in this life.
Tedd had a special relationship with Marie’s grandson, Noah Huff, who he was privileged to lead to the Lord. Tedd was a devoted member of Herald Church of God of Prophecy, Sandy Ridge VA.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Morgans Baptist Church with Rev. Ted R. Smith, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
