







Obituary of William Andrew Yowell III
William Andrew Yowell, III, of Roanoke passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025. Born and raised in Bedford, Virginia, he graduated from Bedford High School in 1963 and was a member of the Virginia Military Institute Class of 1967, majoring in Civil Engineering. After serving a year in Vietnam, Andy worked for the Corps of Engineers. In 1979 he went to work at Wintergreen Resort, first as Director of Building Construction and then Director of Facilities, positions he held for twenty years. He then worked for Mathers Construction in Waynesboro, VA and finished off his career as Project Manager for Nielsen Builders on the Third Barracks project at his beloved VMI.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents, William A. Yowell and Eleanor Payne Yowell, and his wife, Jan Webster Yowell.
He is survived by his sons, Andy, Lee, Charlie (Lily) and Tyler; beloved granddaughters, Katie, Megan, Julie, Lilly, Ella, Chelsea and Sawyer; great grandson, Hudson; sister Martha Freaney; and beloved friend, Linda Wirt.
Andy loved his family, friends, Wintergreen, and the Orioles Attending many games at VMI and Camden Yards, cheering on the O’s. He was a good, kind and gentle man who will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 11:00 at Greenwood Cemetery in Bedford. Flowers may be sent to 998 Ashland Avenue, Bedford, VA 24523.
