A funny thing I remember about going to see Grandma —
At the apartment I remember her residing in the most during the time period I was able to visit relatively frequently, kept up this weird superstition that was heavily reinforced by the locals, which was this: Anytime a resident was using the elevator, they had to move this wooden pelican from one side of the hallway to the other to signify that this individual was either coming or going. Consequently, that pelican became the most active resident that apartment complex has ever known.

My Aunt Mary always had a smile for me whenever we came to visit. She was a very loving and giving woman. After Uncle Bill's funeral in 2016, she invited me back to her home and presented me with a pearl necklace, a gift my father had given her years ago. He had purchased it in Japan on one of his trips home from Vietnam. She thought it would have special meaning to me, and it certainly did! I will miss my dear Aunt Mary, but I take comfort in knowing she is rejoicing with her Heavenly family! All my love to Vickie, Linda, Bill and their families!

Q: What will you never forget about Mary Ellen?
A: I will always remember when I was really little Grandma sent me a book titled, “ How To Be A Lady,” as a gift; as you can imagine I was not particularly thrilled. Still have the book to this day.
