Obituary of Bonnie Day Whitley

Bonnie Day Whitley of Bedford transitioned to her Heavenly home on Monday, February 3, 2025 surrounded by her family after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born in Jenkinjones, WV on October 31, 1943 to the late Glen A. Day and Bessie Presley Day, Bonnie being the youngest of eight children.

She was preceded in death by their son, Joseph Glen Whitley.

On September 5, 1964 she married Reese Whitley.  They had a wonderful life together for sixty years.  Their marriage was blessed with three children, Joey, Jay & Jennifer.

Reese's work took him, Bonnie and their children to homes in numerous towns in numerous states and Puerto Rico over thirty-six years.  Bonnie made their home a warm and happy place, no matter where they lived.  Bonnie was a good athlete and loved to play tennis.  She played in many tennis tournaments.

Bonnie and Reese loved their twenty-five years of retirement in Bedford.  Their home and front porch was a favorite gathering place for friends, neighbors and family.
Bonnie was and always will be loved and loved beyond measure.

She is survived by her husband, Reese; son, Reinor Jay Whitley (Tricia); daughter, Jennifer Whitley McCarthy (Rob); two grandsons, Robbie & Jackson McCarthy; one brother, George E. Day (Loretta) as well as numerous loving cousins.

In lieu of flowers, Bonnie would greatly appreciate a donation to the Bedford Baptist Youth Ministry, 1516 Oakwood Street, Bedford, VA, 24523.  She loved her church and the children. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at Bedford Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Khol officiating.
