Obituary of Peggy Gibbs DeLong

Peggy Gibbs DeLong, 76 of  Bedford, passed away Monday, February 24, 2025 at her residence.  She was born on Sunday, May 23, 1948, a daughter of the late Russell R. Gibbs and Ruby Fielder Gibbs.  She was also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Jean Owen (Donald A. Owen).

Peggy was a devoted wife and loving mother who put others before herself.  She had a sweet and kind spirit and volunteered with Bedford Christian Ministries for twenty-six years.  

She is survived by her husband of fifty-seven and 1/2 years, John William DeLong, Sr.; her son, John W. DeLong II; daughter, Tohnya DeLong Davis (Mike), grandchildren, Ashley Brooke (Noah), Johnny DeLong III (Ashley), Petty Officer 3rd Class US Navy Parker DeLong, Abby DeLong, Chloe Davis; her great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Duke & Sophie Brooke, Brynlee DeLong as well as her nephew, Terry Owen (Barbara) & great nephew, Mason.  

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, February 28, 2025 at Mt. Olivet Southern Baptist Church Pastor J. R. Graybill and Pastor Vernon DeLong officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
