Obituary of Lewis Carlisle Davenport, Jr.
Lewis "Carlisle" Davenport, Jr., devoted and loving husband of Carolyn Orange Davenport, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 10, 1938 in Charlotte, NC, a son of the late Lewis Davenport, Sr. and Ercel Bowyer Davenport. He was a graduate of East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a special son, Michael Todd Davenport.
Carlisle was an outstanding 3-sport athlete in high school. Upon graduation, his athletic talents followed him to the U.S. Army, where he served from 1957 to 1960. He played baseball while stationed at Ft. Stewart, GA and coached little league football while serving in Germany. He was a devoted father to his two sons, supporting and coaching them throughout their young lives. He was a loyal fan for all of their sporting events, and this commitment continued with his two grandchildren.
He retired after 38 years of working in sales and management at Rubatex Corporation. After retirement, Carlisle loved traveling with his wife, whether it was a bus trip to the casino, on a cruise to the Caribbean or a scenic ride though the countryside. If he wasn't traveling you could find him working out in his yard or on his computer tracking the stock market. He was a loyal classmate and enjoyed reminiscing his school years with friends over the phone or attending annual class reunions. He was also a long-time member of Bedford Christian Church, having served in various roles, most notably as chairman of the trustee committee and providing financial guidance for the church.
