Obituary of Linda Johnson Burger
Linda Johnson Burger, of Roanoke and formerly of Bedford, born on April 12 1943, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Ken Burger; her brothers Don Johnson, Eddie Johnson (Judy), and Randal Johnson (Ruth); her children, April Woody (Sean) and Adam Markham; her granddaughters, Haley Lemus (Emerson), Grace Calamita (Reid), and Alexandra Woody; her great-grandson, Luca Lemus and her stepdaughters, Melinda Cohan (Dave) and Stephanie Burger. She was predeceased by her parents, Jesse and Dot Johnson, and her brother, Wayne Johnson.
Along with her husband, Ken, Linda was the founder and first owner/operator of The Well in Bedford which began with a passion for the study and use of herbal tinctures. Linda took a spiritual approach to life, loved pursuing knowledge, reading, singing, watching "well-done" movies and television, and going for drives in her beloved Bedford County. She loved horses, was a gifted artist and enjoyed special times with her family. Her family takes comfort in what Linda believed about life and death.
Linda's family is grateful for the excellent, loving care provided by The Glebe in Daleville, Virginia, and by Westminster Canterbury in Lynchburg, Virginia.
We will celebrate Linda’s life with a gathering on Saturday April 26, 2:00 at Westhampton Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 2515 Grandin Rd SW, Roanoke, VA with a reception to follow.
Linda had the ability to leave a woman with a smile. In a store, on the sidewalk, in a pub, she would stop and compliment a stranger. Before long they both would be laughing like old friends! Here are suggestions to keep that going in her memory:
1. Sending random acts of kindness from Little Otter Flower Shop, a locally-owned Bedford business. Contact Little Otter Flower Shop by email Jen.littleotter@gmail.com or https://littleotterflowerfarm.com/. Leave a note that says, “from Linda.” They will know and will add a card to the bouquets that says, “from Linda.”
2. Reach out to community organizations that benefit women, like the Rescue Mission in Roanoke or Miriam’s House in Lynchburg.
Linda loved and had a deep connection with horses. Memorials may also be made to Brook Hill Farm, 7289 Bellevue Rd., Forest, VA 24551 where Linda found special joy last summer.
Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral and Cremation Service, Bedford.
