Obituary of Doris A. Butcher

Doris A. Butcher, 78 of Bedford, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2025 at her residence.  She was born November 29, 1946 in Swords Creek, VA, a daughter of the late William Miller and Hazel Dye Miller.  She was also preceded in death by a sister, Billie McGraw.

Doris was retired after 40 years in the insurance industry and was a member of the Durham Association of Insurance Women and attended Thaxton Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, James P. Butcher; her daughter, Kim Tolley (Don); a sister, Judy Ferguson; her grandchildren Ryan Tolley & Morgan Tolley.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1 PM on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford and a funeral service will follow at 2 PM in the chapel with Rev. Ethan Strickler officiating.   Interment will be in the Thaxton Baptist Church Cemetery.
