Obituary of Gladys Martin Toms

Gladys Martin Toms, 88 of Bedford passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.  She was the daughter of the late James Stuckey and Martha Layne Stuckey.  She was also preceded in death by two brothers and her daughter-in-law, Gayle Toms. 

 

She was a seamstress and loved cooking for her family.  She was a member of Hickory Grove Community Church.

 

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Ray L. Toms; her children, Billy Toms, Dale Toms (Debbie), Kent Toms (Kathleen), Ronnie Toms (Debbie); Lisa Eubanks (James); 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews.

 

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be made to Hickory Grove Community Church, 2607 Triggs Road, Bedford, VA  24523.

 

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Updike Funeral Home Chapel, Bedford with the Rev. William Clark and Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating.   A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.  Interment will follow at Suck Spring Baptist Church Cemetery.

 

Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
