







Obituary of Monty Ray Hogan
Monty Ray Hogan, 71, of Bedford, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025 in Lynchburg, Va. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his daughter, Emily Pearl; his beloved father, Raymond Hogan and his very special grandmother, Pearl Hogan.
He was born September 11, 1953 to the late Raymond Hogan and Jean Hogan, who survives. Monty was a loving father, who devoted his entire life to taking care of his children, Summer and husband, Austin Oliver, Claire and husband, Ryan Johnson, Montgomery and wife, Danielle Hogan and his granddaughter, Whitney Vincent. Monty is also survived by many other family members.
He graduated from Virginia Tech and returned to Lynchburg to marry his one true love, Mary McCoy Hogan. He worked as a chemist and later progressed into hydraulic and fluid power engineering. He retired from Applied Industrial technologies for which he had worked on Industrial as well as military projects for companies like Sperry Marine and B&W technologies.
Monty was well known in Bedford where he lived, for watching trains and walking around to visit his friends with his best friend, Angel.
Monty was known for his kind and giving nature not only to family and friends, but also to strangers who just need a little help in this world. He was an honest and caring soul who loved to make people laugh.
Monty loved animals, music, cars, trains and airplanes. He loved to educate others and discuss his hobbies. He always shared his wealth and intelligence with others.
The family wishes to thank everyone who helped Monty in his time of need including bystanders and friends, Bedford Rescue Squad, Bedford Police Department, the staff at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital ER, especially the Chaplin, Chris.
