Phyllis Goode Hackworth, 87 of Huddleston passed away on November 11, 2025.  She was born on July 7, 1938 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Charlie Wharton and Mamie Kendrick Goode.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, of 64 years, Eugene "Oscar" Ray Hackworth.

She graduated from Huddleston High School in 1957.  Phyllis was retired from Lane Company in Altavista, where she worked for 27 years in the traffic department.  She was a member of Palestine Baptist Church, where she was a pianist for 40 years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling and spending time with family.  She will be remembered for unconditional love and faithfulness.

She is survived by her daughters, Melissa (Keith) Goad, Annette (Ray) Saunders; two cherished grandsons, Caleb Brown and Connor Goad; her precious great granddaughter, Emily Mae Brown; special cousins, Cathey Bays, Richard & Linda Goode and Melinda Nichols, who was like a sister to her.

The family would like to thank her caregivers for their love and care during her illness, Yolanda (Yoyo), April, Megan, and Tracy as well as Good Samaritan Hospice for all their care and support, especially their special nurses Jennifer, Thyra, Angel, Shana, Megan,and Molly for taking care of our precious mother.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Updike Funeral Home Chapel, Bedford, with the Rev. Dave Janney & Jackie Carver officiating. Interment will follow in the Palestine Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10 until 12 prior to the service.
