William Ed Cocke Obituary

William Ed Cocke, 39 of  Tate Springs Health & Rehabilitation, Lynchburg, VA passed away Monday, July 13, 2026.  He was born on Tuesday, September 23, 1986 in Bedford, a son of William Edward Cocke  and Linda Boulet Miles.   In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Keith Edward Cocke; his precious nieces who were the light of his life, Alaynah Michelle Cocke & Cheyenne Mae Cocke, all residing in Evington as well as numerous uncles, aunts and many cousins.

He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bill & Mary Miles, paternal grandparents, Earl & Dorothy Cocke, uncle, Earl Cocke, Jr. and his aunt, Elizabeth T. Miles and many other family members that he knew and missed.

Also included are his family members with Keeseekoose First Nation in Kamsack, Saskatchewan.  He was very happy to have treaty status and be a part of his Mother's Indigenous culture.  We want to thank Chief Alvin Musqua, Jr., and council members and staff for their love and support.

Thru his years of employment, he enjoyed working at Bedford Automotive (currently Bedford Berglund) as a car detailer.  He went on to learn the trade in the printing business and worked as RST and also at Progress Printing.

He was a huge fan of the Washington "Redskins", often making jokes with his Cowboy fan friends, one in particular - Dale Miller.  He also enjoyed NASCAR racing for many years and his favorite drivers were Jeff Gordon, Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski.

In his childhood and teenage years, Bill loved to fish and hunt.  His Papa Earl took him to so many places and they enjoyed this tremendously.  They rode around many Bedford County "country" roads and listened to country music.  He learned to drive at an early age and his Papa taught him to operate their Massey Ferguson tractor and he would bush hog the fields and do any chores to help them out.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Lynchburg General Hospital, Tate Springs Rehab., Heartland Hospice and also Freda Reynolds Easterly for their kindest, caring love that was provided to Bill in preparing his journey to Heaven.

Per Bill's wishes, there will be no public services.

Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
