Obituary of Isabelle Hughes

Isabelle Nichols Hughes, 90 of Bedford, passed away Friday, January 21, 2011 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born on Wednesday, April 28, 1920 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Alvin Leroy Nichols and Jennie Lou Roberts Nichols. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Lawrence E. Buscher, Jr., as well as three sisters, Agnes Guthrie, Inez Baber, Dare Johnson, and five brothers, Alvin L. Nichols, Jr., Basil Nichols, Milton Travis Nichols, Ray B. Nichols, Troy Nichols. She was a graduate of Huddleston High School and was employed by Leggett Department Store in Bedford for over ten years. She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church for over 40 years. Surviving is her husband of sixty-seven years, Lawson Earl Hughes; daughter, Dianne Hughes Buscher of Kernersville, NC, a granddaughter, Dr. April Buscher & husband, Tobias Gloth of Houston, TX; three sisters, Katherine Wood of Bedford, Mary Wade of Hampton and Barbara Padgett of Roanoke. The family would like to thank the staff of Oakwood Health & Rehabilitation for all their kind care. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Bethesda United Methodist Church with Rev. Tammy Franklin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
