Obituary of Roderick L. Edwards, Jr.

Roderick L. "Tony" Edwards, Jr., 63 of Bedford, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023 at his residence.  He was born June 10, 1960 a son of Roderick L. Edwards, Sr. who survives and the late Essie Reynolds Edwards.  He was also preceded in death by a sister, Gayle Edwards Hamrick, a niece, Kristy Dawn Overstreet and his brother-in-law, Cliff Wolford.

Tony was an employee of Rubatex Corporation for twenty-six years having worked as a security guard.  He was a kind and gentle man who loved his family. He talked to his Dad every night before going to bed.  He enjoyed puttering in his shop, a good yard sale and enjoyed fishing.  He was also an avid hunter and liked going to North Creek with his Dad and brother, Robin and always came home with a deer.  He loved Christmas and enjoyed playing Santa Claus and making his rounds to neighbors homes.        

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Judy Orange Edwards; a brother, Dennis Robin Edwards; two sisters, Dana Overstreet (Wayne), Shela Wolford; a brother-in-law, Les Hamrick; his step-children, Donald Orange (fiance, Karen), Ronald Orange (Michelle), Randall Stoneberger (Debbie); step-grandchildren, Tyler Stoneberger, Hayden Miller, Andy Woolwine; his nephews, Greg Overstreet, Tim Overstreet (Sandy), Jeff Kernen (Tracy); as well as his great nieces & nephews, Cody Kernen, Zak, Eli, Lani, Abby and Ally Overstreet and his four legged friend, Hank.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Earl Ragland officiating.  Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
