Obituary of Calvin Lee Bowyer

Calvin Lee Bowyer, 74, of Bedford, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023 at his home surrounded by family.  Calvin was born on Sunday, March 13, 1949 to the late James Mitchell Bowyer, Jr. & Rhoda Overstreet Bowyer.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, David Mitchell Bowyer. 

Calvin was a salesman with 45 years of service for H & C Coffee & Witt Wholesale.  He enjoyed NASCAR, riding his tractor & working in his garden, especially his tomatoes! Calvin also enjoyed traveling to Tennessee and listening to country & bluegrass music.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn McCulley Bowyer; daughters, Angela Davis (Buddy) & Tammy Slusher (Kevin); grandsons, Andrew Davis (Alexandra), Jacob Davis & Thomas Hackworth; sister, Helen Dooley (Joe); nephews, Phillip Tuck & fiancé, Jessica & Joey Dooley (Christie) & niece, Kelly Ann Dooley.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Pastor Austin Hull officiating.  Interment will follow in Peaks Presbyterian Community & Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
