Laura Bays Watson, 86 of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Oakwood Health & Rehab. Center. She was born on Sunday, December 21, 1930 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Nolan O. Bays and Kathleen Creasey Bays. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty-eight years, Richard Anderson Watson, infant daughter, Rita Watson and her brother & sister-in-law, Leonard & Mary Bays. She was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed. She loved the farm life and tending her roses and garden. She was a lifetime member of Quaker Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Wayne R. Watson & wife, Cathy; daughter, Karen W. Craig & husband, Ray; granddaughters, Mickey Craig & Tori Watson as well as several special cousins, nieces, nephews & their families. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider a donation to the Moneta Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 497, Moneta, VA 24121 or the charity of your choice. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Oakwood Health & Rehab. Center and her Hospice Care, Providus for the wonderful care. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 PM on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford and a funeral service will follow at 2 PM in the chapel with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Interment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service Bedford.
