Obituary of James Burton Preston

James Burton Preston, 67, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at his home in Kernersville, NC. He was born on September 7, 1949, in Bedford County, VA. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is preceded in death by his father, Fredrick Burton Preston, of Huddleston, VA, and his brother, Larry Dean “Buck” Preston, of Bedford, VA. He his survived by his mother, Claudine Kendrick Preston, of Huddleston, VA, his wife, Sue Bowden Preston, of Raleigh, NC; his daughter, Jill Preston Thomas & son in law, Ned Allen Thomas Jr., and his granddaughters, Willa Morrow Thomas and Elizabeth Preston Thomas, all of Encinitas, CA. Jimmie loved watching sports of all kind, especially the UVA Cavaliers, and visiting his daughter’s family in California. He bought fresh flowers for his home every week, so flowers in his honor would be a fitting tribute. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston. Interment will follow in the Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery after which a reception will be held in the fellowship hall provided by the Bethesda Church Congregation. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 3 until 5pm at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation, Huddleston.
