Obituary of Clara Odelle Witt Arthur

Clara Odelle Witt Arthur, 86 of Bedford, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Oakwood Health & Rehab. Center. She was born on Sunday, September 21, 1930 in Bedford County, the only daughter of the late John W. Witt and Agnes Irene James Witt. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Welford Hill Arthur, her daughter, Brenda Maxfield, son-in-law, Kenneth D. Maxfield, as well as three brothers and one sister-in-law. She was retired from Walmart, was a member of member of Thaxton Baptist Church and the Women of the Moose # 1005. She is survived by her son, John H. Arthur & wife, Linda; daughters, Alice Foutz & husband, Gerald, Betty Maxfield; sisters-in-law, Ouida Witt, Margaret Witt, Arline Ferguson, eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild as well as numerous nieces & nephews. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Huddleston Lifesaving Crew, P. O. Box 77, Huddleston, VA 24104. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Pastor Danny Holdren officiating. Interment will follow in Suck Spring Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
