Landon Lowry Johnson, 100 of Huddleston, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on Monday, October 18, 1909 in Bedford County, a son of the late Ollie Johnson and Vertie Leftwich Johnson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Turner Johnson and a son, Kenny W. Johnson. He was a retired carpenter and painter as well as a farmer and avid gardener. He attended the Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy. Surviving are three sons, Larry W. Johnson & his wife Bonnie of Lynch Station; Glenn D. Johnson of Bedford and Terry L. Johnson of Huddleston; a daughter-in-law, Ramona C. Johnson of Evington, a granddaughter, Jackie J Hagood; 3 grandsons, Larry Brian Johnson, Stephen Dwayne Johnson and Derek Scott Johnson and four great-grandchildren. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider the Mentow Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3282 Mentow Drive, Huddleston VA 24104. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in Mentow Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, January 8, 2010 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
