Helen D. Watson, 94 of Moneta, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Helen passed away at home with family and loved ones with her. Helen was born on Monday, December 13, 1915 in Moneta, a daughter of the late Willie Clay Dooley and Fannie Dooley. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John Hanford Watson, one sister, Mary Grace Dooley and a special family friend, Mark Stevens. After her children were grown she worked with her husband at the J.H. Watson General Store. She was a member of Morgan's Baptist Church. Helen is survived by her three children, Willie M. Watson of Moneta; Linda G. Watson of Moneta, and Mary Lynn Burnette & husband Wayne of Bedford; six grandchildren, Kim W. Gabris, Sheri W. Hamm, Mandi S. Shayda, John W. Watson, Aaron W. Burnette and wife Susan, Amy L. Burnette and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Richard Anderson Watson and wife, Laura, three sisters-in-law, Edith Watson, Margaret Watson and Lelia Dudley and a special niece, Eula "Toots" Ayers of Vinton. Special thanks to her daughter, Linda who made Helen's care and well being a priority for the past eight years. This allowed her to live at home and be with her special dog, "Lady". The family would like to thank the many caregivers who also made her home care possible. Their dedication and support will never be forgotten. Thanks to Winston Chapman and staff, Dr. Luth, Dr. Dehli and Gene Amstutz for their assistance with Helen's health care. Thanks to Steven King, the service facilitator for the EDCD waiver program and thanks also to Medi-Home Health and Hospice employees. A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday November 17, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Rick Mallory officiating.
