Obituary of Lola Overstreet

Lola Mae Overstreet, 76 of Moneta, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Friendship Manor Health Care Center. She was born on Wednesday, January 17, 1934 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Allen Overstreet and Lillie Maude Hicks Overstreet. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Melva Williamson, Mary Carter, Reba Overstreet, Bernice Wheeling, two brothers, Lorenza Overstreet, Wilbur Overstreet and a niece, Marie Overstreet. She was the cafeteria manager at Moneta Elementary School for thirty-eight years having retired in 2002 and was a lifetime member of Diamond Hill Baptist Church. Surviving are her two sisters, Dorothy Cooper of Bedford; Irene Carter of Franklin Co.; her adopted family, Carl H. & Lyn Higginbotham of Goodview; Dana Higginbotham-Tickle of Bedford; Robert Higginbotham of Salem, with whom Miss Overstreet spent much of her time with for forty-six years and thought of Dana and Roberts as her very own. She will be sadly missed by this family. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Diamond Hill Baptist Church, 3541 Horseshoe Bend Road, Moneta, VA 24121 . Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Diamond Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Butterworth officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 4 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
