Obituary of Jimmy Garland Jones

Jimmy Garland Jones, 83 of  Bedford, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Centra Bedford Hospice House.  He was born on Tuesday, February 20, 1934  in Nixonton, NC, a son of the late Samuel Dossie Jones and Mattie Virginia Combs Jones.  He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Billie Wray Smith, Barbara Jean Wade, Hazel Winslow, Elsie Jones & Sophie Winslow & his brother, Leon Jones.

He was a retired educator from Bedford County Public Schools having served as a principal for a number of years, was a U. S. Marine Corps. Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Bedford Baptist Church.  Jimmy loved his family, his country, music, his church, being an educator, the Marine Corps, time spent enjoying tractors and being the life of any party. 

He is survived by his wife, Allyne Padgett Jones; his son, Troy B. Jones of Richmond; his daughters, Yvonne J. Snider & husband, Ronald, Jr. of Montpelier, VA; Heather A. Jones of Bedford; his grandson, Ronald C. Snider III;  half-brother, Donnie Jones of Elizabeth City, NC & step-brother, Clyde Palmer of FL as well as many nieces and nephews.  

The family request that those wishing to make memorials consider Centra Bedford Hospice House, 1025 Turning Point Lane, Bedford, VA 24523.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10 AM on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Bedford Baptist Church  and a funeral service will follow at 11:00 am  with Dr. David Henderson officiating.  Interment will be private.  Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
