Sharon, Jeff and Family,
I remember Tony from the times we were all running around together at Beford Lifesaving Crew in the 80's with fond recollection of our more carefree days. I am so sorry to hear of his struggle and your loss.

To the family, I had just met Tony a few months back when he started coming into the lab to have his blood collected. Tony and I would talk about our family as well as his illness. Tony was such a peaceful person even though he was going through a difficult time. The last time that he was here we talked about his recent trip he had taken with his family and how such a great time they all had. I will miss Tony and all the talks we had about the medical field as well as him giving me such good advice about medical issues that my family is enduring at this time. God received a great angel.....

Sharon & Corbett, my heart is breaking just now hearing of your loss. I became acquainted with Tony through Roanoke EMS and later the ED. At first I was intimidated and in awe of Tony and his seemingly unending knowledge. This didn't last long as he saw something in me and took me under his wing setting me on a life changing path from NREMNT-P to RN Certified First Assistant working in Vascular Surgery at RMH. Remembering Tony fondly as an example of a caring, competent, compassionate professional who demonstrated to all those around him how to make a difference. Take refuge in the knowledge that his legacy will certainly live on. May God's blessings be with you through these trying times and always.

Go rest high on that mountain...your work on earth is done. But never forgotten. I know you went to Heaven rejoicing, but there is a grief and void left behind. You were such an incredible teacher and will miss joking and laughing with you. My deepest sympathies and condolences to your family and friends.

Tony and I met in the fall of 79. He and brother (Jeff) changed my career path back in the early 80’s. It all started with Moneta Rescue / Bedford Life Saving Crew. Several of the groups became what was known in our circle as “The Bedford Boys”. Standing by at Bedford Life Saving Crew Hall on Friday & Saturday night to see who could drive the Squad first.
Tony was always one step ahead of me with his EMS Certifications. So he taught me a lot of what I know today. I followed him and Jeff to Roanoke City EMS Division in the late 80’s. Tony, Gary Ferris, Drew Slemp and I comprised what was known then as “B Shift”.
One morning I can remember getting a call for a person unresponsive. We each responded in different medic trucks. Volunteers were scare at that time of the morning. While enroute to the scene, Tony called a working “Code Blue”. I arrived on scene and could not find him Tony or his partner Garry anywhere. I called him on the radio and asked where they were located? He advised in the unit. I had walked right past the unit and never noticed that they were working the code in the back of the unit. After all was said and done I asked him what happened. He replied that when they determined a “Working Code” he picked up the lady, thru her over his shoulder and carried her to the unit. And again I asked why, he continued by stating “did you see how many steps we would have had to carry her and the equipment down”. This just one of many stories that we could share.
Even though Tony and I went our separate ways in the early 90’s we continued to work together on training paramedic students.
I did get to spend a little time with Tony on May 7th at his Benefit Softball Tournament. He was very upbeat. Every time I spoke with him, he was always looking at the future. Whether it was Corbett graduating college or the UVA football team turning things around.
Until we meet again, Rest my Friend.
Sharon and Corbett you have lost a great husband and great father. Tony will always have a place in my heart.
As Joshua 1:9 reads “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courage’s. Do not be afraid: do not be discouraged, for the LORD your GOD will be with you wherever you go.”

For many, many years I've had the pleasure of working beside this wonderful man and his wife. Sharon & Tony were family to all. Sharing celebrations of families' momentous events such as marriages, births, including the birth of their son, Corbett. Support of all their ED FAMILY, during duress & illnesses and deaths of loved ones, we all were touched by Tony & Sharon. Phenomenal nurse, cohort, friend, and husband, and father. He had a genuine smile that lifted your spirit. Forever remembered in my heart.

To Sharon and Corbett,
As you know. we are saddened by Tony' s passing, but are relieved that he is no longer in pain. Heaven has gotten another angel for their army. While this is a difficult time, please remember that God's will is always right for he needed Tony more than we did. Now, he is reunited with others who have departed before him.
