Obituary of Delores Jean Strawn

Delores Jean Wright Strawn, 82 of Bedford, passed from this earthly life to a glorious heavenly life, on Sunday evening, July 23, 2017 with her family by her side.  She was the loving wife of the late Kenneth E. Strawn of Bedford.

Born April 23, 1935, she was the only child of the late Dorothy Martin Wright Worley and Berkley W. Wright of Lynchburg.

Jean was a beloved mother to three girls, Cynthia Ann Tucker and husband, Richard of Forest; Tamara Elizabeth Moore Preston of Lynchburg; and the late Kimberlee Renea DeHart and husband, Joe of Bedford.  She leaves two grandchildren Eric Scott DeHart of Bedford and Jennifer Tucker Bruns and husband Mathew of Ft. Myers, FL. and great-grandchildren 2 year old , Schuyler Grace Bruns and Lawrence Thomas Bruns, who will make his arrival sometime in October.

She dearly loved her close and extended family and cherished the time spent with them to celebrate each birthday, holiday, special occasion, and nightly phone chats with each one of her girls.  She loved playing Scrabble and always enjoyed a Sunday afternoon game of Old Maid with 8 year old, Abigail Tucker.

Jean was a portrait photographer in her younger years and later retired from Babcock & Wilcox after 24 years of service.  She was a member of Bedford Baptist Church.  Mom will be remembered for her love for her family, her generous spirit, and her concern for others.  She will be greatly missed.

A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, July 26 at 10 am at Timber Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Pastor Don Manley officiating.   The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 25 from 6 to 8 pm at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford and condolences can also be made on the Updike’s website at www.updikefuneralhome.com.
