Valinda Gail Phillips Carter, 55 of  Thaxton,  passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2017.  She was born on Sunday, July 22, 1962  in Bedford, a daughter of the late Richard Garland Phillips and Julia Rebecca Carter Phillips.  She was also preceded in death by her father-in-law, Robert Randolph Carter, mother-in-law, Sarah Burks Carter; brothers-in-law, Robert O. Carter, Richard Waldron, Bobby Brunk; sister-in-law, Effie Louise Carter. 

She is survived by her husband, Fredrick "Fred" Jackson Carter of Thaxton; step-sons, Fredrick Carter & wife Becky, Robert Carter & girlfriend, Amanda; sisters, Mary Waldron, Dot Goff & husband, Larry, Regina Lietz & husband, Bill, Janie Wilson & husband, Ronnie, and Julia "Baby" Brunk; half-sister, Virginia Falls; grandchildren, Haley Michelle Carter, Aden Dewayne Carter, Savannah Carter, Olivia Carter, Robbie Carter and Addison Rain Carter; brother-in-law, Donnie Lee Carter; nieces, Tabatha Carter, Ashley Nicole Deacon, Delores Evans; nephew, Richard Elkins. 

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 4:00 pm at Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Holdren officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, August 25, 2017 from  6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
