Obituary of Helen Marie Roop Long

Helen Marie Roop Long, 85 of  Montvale,  passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Pheasant Ridge ALF, Roanoke.  She was born on Tuesday, November 17, 1931 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Paul and Margaret Hutchens Roop.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Elmer Long; daughter, Donna Marie Long Ostendorf.  She retired at Tultex after running Gross Point Marina at Smith Mountain Lake for many years. 

She was a member of Walnut Grove United Methodist Church. 

She is survived her daughters, Wanda Faye Long of Vinton, Linda Sue Long of Roanoke; a son, Gary Wayne Long & wife, Anne of Moneta; four grandchildren, two step grandchildren and one great grandchild.

The family request those wishing to make memorials to consider Heartland Hospice, 2800 Electric Road, #105 C, Roanoke, VA  24018, or charity of you choice.  

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Updike Funeral Home Chapel, Bedford with the Rev. Robert Auxier officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Church cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Bedford.
