Obituary of Aubrey Ray Byers
Aubrey "Ray" Byers, 97 of Bedford passed away in the early morning hours of December 3, 2017 at Centra Bedford Hospice House.
Ray was born in Amherst, Virginia and moved and raised his family in Richwood, West Virginia. He relocated to Bedford Virginia in 2007 to be with his daughter, Carolyn. He was a former truck driver who hauled rock to help build the Blue Ridge Parkway and was also a former coal miner and heavy equipment operator.
Ray was predeceased by his parents, James and Florence Byers, his wife, Ruth Caldwell Byers, his daughters, Carolyn and husband, Everett Cole, Frances and son, Jack.
Ray is survived by his extended family by heart, David and Sharon Newman, DJ Newman and family, JD Newman and family, Kimm Chambers and family, numerous nieces and nephews and grandchildren by heart as well as numerous special friends.
Ray touched everyone's heart in his own special way with his charming personality and love of people. He loved to travel and spend time with his family by heart.
Thanks to all of the caregivers, nurses, and staff with Centra Bedford Hospice who cared for Ray with such love and dignity during his last few months. Special thanks to all who assisted with the arrangements.
The family will receive friends beginning at 1 PM on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford and a funeral service will follow at 3 PM in the chapel. Interment will be in West Virgina Memorial Gardens at a later date.
