Obituary of Agnes Burnette Austin
Agnes Burnette Austin, 96 of Huddleston, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Centra Bedford Hospice House. She was born on Friday, February 25, 1921 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Patrick Penn Burnette and Nellie Elizabeth Lacy Burnette. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Earl Austin, her son, Nolan Austin, her brother, Warren Burnette, her sister, Hazel Aycock & her granddaughter, Deborah Howell.
She worked for Tyree Hardware and Furniture Company in Altavista for several years and also did substitute teaching at Huddleston High School. She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church where she sung in the choir and was a Sunday School teacher for as long as she was able to attend regularly.
She is survived by her sons, Leonard Austin, Jerry Austin & wife, Arlene, William Penn Austin; her grandchildren, Adam Austin & wife, Amanda, Patricia Austin Hudgins & husband, Tripp; her great-grandsons, Elias Austin Hudgins, Nolan Howell, Wyatt Howell; her great-granddaughters, Skylar & Rayleigh Austin; her sister, Mary Lou Burnette.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Bethesda United Methodist Church Building Fund, 14340 Wyatts Way, Huddleston, VA 24104.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Bethesda United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Barton & Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 until 7 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
