Davis Rudolph Ashwell, 88 of Huddleston, passed away Friday, December 10, 2010 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born on Wednesday, March 8, 1922 in Bedford Co., a son of the late James Raymond Ashwell and Sallie Willie Craighead Ashwell. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, James Raymond "Jamie" Ashwell II. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy having served in World War II and was a navigator on an Air-Sea Rescue plane. Surviving is his wife, Abigail Georgia Girard Ashwell; four sons Robert H. Ashwell & wife, Ellen; Raymond D. Ashwell & wife, Galen; Andrew G. Ashwell, all of Huddleston; William C. Ashwell of Lynchburg; and eight grandchildren. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 2316 Atherholt Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston with Rev. Dr. Carl H. Douglass, Jr. and Rev. David Bayse officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 until 5 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston
