Ira Clay Crouch, 74 of Bedford, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2010 at his residence. He was born on Friday, September 4, 1936 in Bedford Co., a son of the late Clyde Claudis Crouch and Ola Howell Crouch. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Crouch Cheek and a brother, Richard Crouch. He was an employee of the Virginia Department of Transportation having retired with thirty-nine years of service. He was also on the Board of Directors of the Moneta Medical Center and Springlake Stockyard. He was past cheif of the Moneta Election Pole and a member of Morgans Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee, Head Usher and an Ordained Deacon. He was a forty-two year member of Bedford Masonic Lodge # 244. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was an avid golfer and a dedicated Staunton River High School Sports fan. Surviving is his wife of forty-nine years, Joan Hannabass Crouch; two sons, Kevin Crouch & wife, Beth of Vinton; Tony Crouch & wife, Ronda of Bedford; three grandchildren, Taylor, Travis and Turner Crouch; sister-in-law, Jean S. Crouch of Bedford, brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Bobby & Dorothy Hannabass of Goodview as well as several nieces & nephews. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider American Cancer Socety, 2316 Atherholt Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501 or the Morgans Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o M. J. Cox, Jr. 3714 White House Road, Moneta, VA 24121. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Morgans Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Mallory and Rev. Joey Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in church cemetery. Friends may call Friday after 12 noon and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
