Ruth Edna Mitchen age 89, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Bedford County Nursing Home in Bedford. Born on October 19, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Rufus Jesse Morgan and Annie Blankenship Morgan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd A. Mitchen; two brothers, Odell J. Morgan and William T. (Billy) Morgan. She is survived by a daughter, Joyce M. Allen and her husband, Morgan, of Gretna, and a sister, Bevy Johnson of Altavista. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Lois W. Morgan and a nephew, Russell O. Morgan and wife, Edna, all of Huddleston. Mrs. Mitchen was a member of Palestine Baptist Church and a former employee of Body Camp Grocery working with Kermit and Annie Ferguson. The family expresses their deep gratitude for the loving care provided by the professional and compassionate staff of the Bedford County Nursing Home. A special thanks to Dr. Luth of Village Family Physicians for taking care of her for many years. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Updike Funeral Home Chapel, Huddleston with the Rev. Glenn Stevens officiating. Interment will follow at Palestine Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday after 11 AM and the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
