Obituary of James Nickie Overstreet

James Nickie Overstreet, 84 of  Lynch Station, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2018 at  Autumn Care of Altavista.  He was born on Sunday, December 17, 1933  in Bedford County, the only surviving child of the late Ernest Ward Overstreet and Rosie Maude Raider Overstreet.  He was also preceded in death by his brothers & sisters, Mable Barker, Dorothy Mayhew, Lewis Overstreet, Rudolph Overstreet & Ernest Overstreet.  

He was retired from Magnatek , was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and was a member of  the Baptist Tabernacle.  

He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Bryant & husband, Donnie of Altavista; grandchildren, Samantha Hutcherson, Lance Hutcherson, Shania Bryant, Donnie Lee Bryant, III; good friends, Eugene Hackworth, Jim Patterson, Wyatt Pickeral; special family friend, Marty Hutcherson as well as several nieces & nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Autumn Care & Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their kindness, care and love of my dad during his illness.  

The family will receive friends beginning at 11 AM on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the Baptist Tabernacle and a funeral service will follow at 1 PM with Pastor Jon Ensley officiating.  Interment, with military honors by Altavista American Legion Post #36 & Gretna Post #232 will follow in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at other times at the home of Terri & Donnie Bryant.
