Obituary of Melanie Rebecca Field

Melanie Rebecca Field, 54 of Bedford County, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.  She was born on Saturday, March 21, 1964  in Bedford, a daughter Jacqueline Coleman Field of Bedford who survives and the late Thomas Sperry Field.  She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Steven Craig Field and Thomas Sperry Field II, grandparents, Moorman and Edna Sperry Field and Garnett E. and Florence Stanford Coleman.   

Melanie lived her entire life in Bedford County, was a graduate of Liberty High School and was employed at the Sheltered Workshop of Bedford.  She loved the farm, animals, country music and her pet dog, Emmy.  Her favorite color was purple.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her large family of brothers and sisters and their families, S. Craig Field's wife, Cindy and children, Bryan, Melissa and Cameron; Jeffrey G. and Jean (Shelor) Field and their children, Matthew, Joshua and wife, Amanda, Thomas S. and Cynthia (Van Burkleo) Field and their children, Glenn, Daniel and Carly, Marty L. and Allison (Field) Crow and their children, Madison, Molly, McKenzie and Eli and Richard K. and Kathleen (Field) Michael and their children, Nathan, Travis & Austin.   

The family wishes to thank Bedford Memorial Hospital, Oakwood Health & Rehab. Center and staff, and Centra Lynchburg General Hospital and staff for their wonderful care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Bedford Animal Hospital, 1604 Centerville Road, Bedford, VA 24523 because of the love Melanie had for animals or Bedford Public Library, ATTN:  Jenny Navalis, 321 N. Bridge Street, Bedford, VA 24523.  Please write on the memo line of your check "Melanie R. Field".  Donations will be used to purchase books for the children's library in memory of Melanie.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Monday, October 29, 2018 at Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. David Whitehurst officiating.  There is no visitation.  Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
