Obituary of Thelma Overstreet Stanley
Thelma Overstreet Stanley, 88 of Bedford, went to be with her Lord on Monday, November 19, 2018. She was born on Wednesday, January 29, 1930 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Luther Luke Overstreet and Mary Alice Frazier Overstreet. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Stella Ammons, brother, William Overstreet and step-sister, Beatrice Overstreet.
She was a former employee of the Rubatex Corporation for many years and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She loved her Lord, her church and church family as well as her garden and flowers. Her family was very special to her and for the last several years, spent many hours traveling to Salem to be with her husband who is the Virginia Veterans Care Center.
She is survived by her husband of seventy-one years, Edward Raymond Stanley, Sr.; her son, Edward R. Stanley, Jr. & wife, Patty; her grandchildren, Edward Stanley III & wife, Jeanie, Christie Hogan & husband, Joey, Tammie Foutz & husband, Nathan, Jamie Stanley & wife, Michelle, Stephanie Johnson & husband, Derek; her great-grandchildren, Ashley Brook & husband, Noah, Parker & Abby DeLong, Johnny DeLong & wife, Ashley, Taylor & Maddie Foutz, Gabby & little Emily Johnson, Cory & Cymber Stanley, Alan Saunders and Brandon Saunders & wife, Jordan her great-great grandchildren, Ryleigh & Duke Brook, Brynlee DeLong; a brother, Raymond Overstreet and her step-brother, Luther Overstreet as well as many nieces & nephews.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10 AM on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 Mt. Zion Baptist Church and a funeral service will be held at 11:00 am with Rev. Bill Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
