“Ms. B” was my principal at Oak Grove - Bellemeade when I came to Richmond 27 years ago and I had the pleasure of working as her reading specialist for 7 years. She was such a caring and nurturing presence in the school but could also correct a child while keeping her beautiful smile in place.
She would often talk about her travels and time with her nephew and with another lady that was a companion that she so enjoyed! I have made sure to travel as often as possible over my life and I think Mary Lou was a catalyst for me.
I was getting ready to interview for a job with a publishing company and had to do a presentation of their newest geography book. Geography is not my forte so she helped me prepare and I got the job.
We both shared a love of Christmas collectibles and I went to see her collection of Christmas villages.
Mary Lou Burnette was a wonderful presence and mentor for children and teachers. She will be missed but her loving spirit continues in those of us who had the privilege of knowing her. My heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.
