Obituary of Travis Wayne Woodford

Travis Wayne Woodford, 72 of Huddleston, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2019 at his residence. He was born on December 31, 1946 in Bedford County, a son of the late Kyle Edward Woodford, Sr. and Charlotte Gray Woodford. 

He was retired from BWXT as an Auditing Administrator, was a proud veteran of the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War, serving in several different posts in the U.S and overseas.  He was also a member of the Lynchburg Church of God of Prophecy.  Travis was the owner and operator of Lakeway Minute Market in Huddleston, where he made so many friends by serving the community.  He loved music and playing the drums.  He played in numerous bands over the years, including Brenda Lee's band and his church 's praise and worship band.  He was a leader in the community, founding the Huddleston recreational department, running church softball leagues, holding leadership positions in the local sports leagues and associations, as well as in his church.  He has left a beautiful legacy in the community and his family.

He is survived by his wife, Ingrid Marie Jessie Bowden Woodford; his daughters, Teresa Woodford Gilliam & husband, Dale, Charla Woodford Schubert & husband, Hans; his son, Brian Travis Woodford & wife, Donna; his grandchildren, Kylie Heflin, Cameron Heflin, Clint Gilliam, Max Gilliam & wife, Amanda, William Woodford, Gracie Woodford, David Hudson & wife, Maggie, Jakob Schubert, Benjamin Schubert; his great-grandson, Tyler Gilliam; his sister, Macklyn Woodford Rosser & husband, Steve; his brother, Kyle E. Woodford, Jr. & wife, Janet as well as many nieces & nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association, Home or the Bedford Centra Hospice.  Thank you to his wonderful Hospice Care givers: Amanda, Sissy, Debbie, Joe, and Kayla.

The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 AM on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Mentow Baptist Church, and a funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment, with military honors by Fort Lee Honor Guard will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
