Obituary of Eleanor Jacobs

Eleanor Elizabeth Overstreet Jacobs, 82 of Moneta, passed away Friday, February 25, 2011 at her residence. She was born on Thursday, May 24, 1928 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Orville Overstreet and Annabelle Niday Overstreet She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sallie Elizabeth Jacobs Fentress. Surviving is her husband of sixty-five years, Elton Moorman Jacobs, Sr. She also leaves six children, Elton M. Jacobs, Jr. of Moneta; Tricia Jacobs Bradley of Beaufort, NC; Susan K. Jacobs of Roanoke, Carl Edward Jacobs, Samuel Vincent Jacobs and Dawn Rene Jacobs, all of Moneta. Other survivors include her sisters, Christine O. Tuck, Gladys O. Buza, Nellie O. Parker, Barbara Ramsey, and one brother, Jessie E. Overstreet, as well as ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Our mother was much loved by friends and family for her ability to make people feel at home. She never met a stranger. We recall occasions while growing up when our mother would take in friends who had nowhere to go. She provided a home and a sense of security. To this day, many of these people have not forgotten her generosity and love. She also provided homes for animals that otherwise had no future. We will remember also that she gave the gift of laughter to us and others around her. She will be greatly missed. Eleanor loved flowers and gardening, so the gift of flowers would be greatly appreciated. Funeral services will be held at the graveside at Morgans Baptist Church Cemetery on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Friends may call Monday after 12 noon and the family will receive friends from 6 utnil 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
